DISASTROUS EXPLOSION
_> GREAT DAMAGE AT ST HELENS. LOSS OF LIFE. United Presa Association— By Electric Telegraph— Copyright. LONDON, May 13. Eighty tons of chloral ignited and blew up Kurtz's chemical works at St Helens, Lancashire. The explosion damaged neigh bo .ring vitriol works, releasing a thousand tons of vitriol, which in turn fired a gasometer. Three persons were killed and fourteen injured. , The concussion was felt four and a half miles away, and all the windows in St Helens were destroyed. The damage is estimated at £100,000.
