WELLINGTON ITEMS.
[From Ouk Correspondent.! I WELLINGTON, April 22. At a meeting of the Workers' Union, last night, a, resolution was passed unanimously—" That, concerning a statement made by Mr Rodgers, an Auckland delegate, at. the meeting of the Trades and Labour Conference at Christchurch, that Mr Collins is regarded by the workers as a Government tout, the Wellington Workers' Union deny that- there is any truth in the statement, so far as it is concerned." The Premier is not expected to return from the West Coast until the end of the month. The New Plymouth Harbour Board having invited tenders for the supply of timber for the repair of the wharf, tlie Railway Department will continue vo run trains thereon, pending a settlement of the further question of extension. Tlie two delegates appointed at the recent meeting of the Education Institute at Cbristchurch waited upon the Hon VV. C. Walker, Minister of Education, this morning, and had a long discussion on the resolutions passed at tlie Conference. Representatives of the Press were excluded on the ground that the meeting was merely of a conversational character. The result of the meeting has not been disclosed, though I 'learn that the Minister expressed sympathy with some of the resolutions, and promised to carefully consider the others. The only information vouchsafed by Mr Walker is that the interview was merely of a preliminary nature,' in order to open up ground for future consideration. During the month of March there were employed on Government co-operative works 24 .9 artisans and labourers, of whom 1544 were under ihe Survey Department, 23 at ♦he Nurseries, 1110 under the Public Works Department, and 22 at the Levin State Farm.
