A PRISON GOVERNOR'S EVIDENCE. United Press Association— By Electric. Telegraph — Copyright. PARIS, April 21. M. Verznette, governor of the Cherchemidi prison, in Paris, deposed before the Court of Cassation that Captain Dreyfus strenuously resisted Colonel Paty dv Clam's suggestion that he gave documents to the secret agents of other Governments in the hope of securing more important documents in return. Captain Le Brun Renaud told witness in 1897 that Captain Dreyfus never confessed to members of the French Patriotic League and other proscribed societies that he had been recently arrested in Paris, or that he hoxl been fined in small amounts, but that the fines were remitted on the grounds of "first offence."
