A LIBEL ACTION.

[Per Furcss Association-] WELLINGTON, April 20. Mr Justice Edwards had before him to-day a libel action for £501 by Michael Higoins against the " Evening Post." Higgins, who described himself as a bookmaker, was fined for loitering, and the "Post," in a parasrniph recording the fact, used the word "loafer," which the plaintiff alleged was a reflection on him. The plaintiff did not give evidence, and the Judge said, accord | ing to the dictionary definition of the meaning of " loafer." a man' who had been twice j convicted of loitering could not very w» I complain of the term. . The jury, after five minutes' retirement, gave a verdict for the defendants with costs.
