BOROUGH COUNCILS.

« ST ALBANS. A meeting of the St Albans Borough Council w*as held last evening; present — The Mayor (Mr T. H. Davey), and Councillors 'Money, Glass, Million, Barlow, Neate, Morgan, and Keig. The lion J. T. Peacock.interviewed the Council with reference to a road which he proposed to construct from Papamii Road to 'Brown's Road. The road would be a chain wide, and would be made in accordance with the' Council's requirements,, and he wished to know whether the Council would be prepared to take it over. At the same time he -renewed his offer to give a strip of his land to widenSt Albans Lane. The Council agreed to take over the road, provided it was constructed in accordance' Avith its regulations. Several applications were made for remission of rates, and in ten, cases the applications were granted. The .Finance Committee reported that on the general account, the receipts had been £305 3s 3d, and the expenditure 15s Bd. The credit balance at the foank was £508 18s 4d. On the loan account tho receipts had been £11 12s, and accounts amounting to £1101 Os 2d were recommended for payment. The'report was adopted, and the accounts recommended were passed. The reports of tho Sanitary and Lighting ■ Committee and the Foreman of Works were read and dealt with. The Sanitary Inspector reported on a visit he had paid to two slaughter-houses. One he ....a found in a .filthy condition, and he recommended .that the building should be : condemned and the license cancelled. The' report was adopted. Several letters were; read and dealt witli. Councillor Money reported the result of the conference of local j bodies held recently to consider the liability' of the Drainage Board to maintain bridges' and culverts. Tenders for the nightsoil' uontract were opened, and consideration was deferred till next meeting. The Council then' rose.
