The honours being equal, unusual interest •attaches to the annual interprovincial match between Canterbury and Otago, which began at the Carisbrook ground at 2 p.m. today. Additional interest is lent to the fixture by the disqualification of Downes, who lias proved Otago's bast hoTt-ler. on his own giijuvd, and curiosity is felt as to how the admittedly strong buttinu .team of Canterbury will fare without the Grange crack bowler- pitted apainst them. The pitch had be;-n ccefuily mused all the week, and the v/ic\et prepared was one of the best seen on Carisbrook for some time. Broad, the Otago captain, won the tcss,. and of course decided to bat.
