SALVATION ARMY.
Colonel Bstill, who has succeeded Colonel Hoskin as head officer of the Salvation Army in the colony, arrived yesterday morning- from Sydney. At Port Colonel Estill was welcomed by a number of officers and soldiers, together with a band. In the course of a conversation with a representative of the " Lyttelton Times," Colonel Estill stated that he had seen almost twenty-one years' service in the Salvation Army. He occupied various positions as an officer in England during eleven years, when he . was. appointed, head of the Army in South Africa. After five years in South Africa ha was
transferred to New South Wales as Chief Colony Officer, and has held that position during the last four years. At the end of next week Colonel Estill will proceed to Dunedin, where he will spend Christmas. After visiting Invercargill he will return north, and will spend the New Year at Wellington. Auckland, Palmerston, Wanganui, Sfcratford and New Plymouth are also on his programme of visits. Colonel Estill said that the Salvation Army in New Zealand bore a very high reputation outside, and it was a question whether it was not ahead of any of the colonies, although New South Wales would run it very close for first honours.
