A auantity of postage stamps, some 25s worth", was found in the street on Thursday. The stamps are now at the police station awaiting an owner. This morning's express was a fairly long train. Among the passengers were the members of the Christ's College cricket team, who were on their way to play their annual match against Dimedin High School on Monday. The concert to be given in the Theatre Hoyal by the Stanmore Band takes place tomorrow (Sunday) evening, when the two test selections and the various solos will be played. Messrs Cerbasi Bros. Italian Band will play from 7.45 till 8.15 p.m? AdmisBion will be by silver coin, and no doubt there will be a very large attendance. The annual outing in connection with St Simon and St Jude"s Sunday School, AshIcy, was held as usual on Anniversary Day at Stony Creek Bush. There was an attendance of over two hundred, and. everything passed off satisfactorily. Hearty-cheers were given for Mr G. Bowron, the-superinten-dent, and his family. During the- afternoon Mr J- Voss, in appropriateiterms, presented Mrs Bowron with a silver butter-knife and a pair of silver serviette rings, and Miss Bovrron with a gold brooch, being gifts from the children in the Mount>Grey Downs district who attend the classes<held at Mr Bowton's private residence omSunday afternoons. The recipients suitably ■»• acknowledged the presents. Mrs Herrick desires to-aeknowledge with, thanks the receipt of the sum of ,£ls 10s 6d, being- the balance oftthe proceeds from the sale of fat cattle afe-Cnlverden. About 9.30 last evening an alarm was received, at the Fire Brigade^ stations from the box in Tuam Street west, near the White Swan Hotel. The Brigade turned out smartly with all its plant, only to find that the alarm was a falsetone. The Natives* Association has so far been unable to ascertain tbje date on.which the cros3 on the Bridle IPath, restored yesterday, was first erected. At the gathering yesterday there were several who were present when the original cross was placed in position,' but none of them could say with certainty iv what year that event took place. The restoration of the fountainftis a work for thefntare, as it has been decided to wait and see whether a supply of water can be relied upon. There is a smalljspring a few yards up the hill, but there- is yet some doubt as to its permanency. Eepresentation is to be made to the railway authorities with the object of having the time of starting the mid-day train to Eangiora altered from 11.50 a.m. to 12.10 or 12.15. p.m. The shortness of the time allowed in Christchurcb. between the arrival of the morning train and departure of the mid-day has often been a source of much ■ inconvenience to -business men anxious not to be compelled to spend all day in the city ; and it is thought that the speed of the mid-day train could be accellerated, and the stopping time at stations reduced so that there need be no alteration in theitime of the train leaving Eangiora.
