THE NEWCASTLE MINERS. United Press Association — By Electric Telegraph— Copyright. NEWCASTLE, Nov. 10. A conference of representatives of the northern coal-owners and the miners was held with closed doors to discuss the proposed new general agreement. It is understood that 'the conference arrived at an agreement to raise the selling price of coal to 8s per ton, commencing at the new year, and to increase the hewing rate to 3s 2d, based on a. sliding scale. The present system of working seams will remain in force. The weighing question was not discussed. The decision will have to be submitted to the miners' lodges.
