A TROTTING CASE.
[Per Press Association.] •DUNEDIN, Oct. 19.
The Stewnrds of the Tahuna Park Trotting Club held a long inquiry last night concerning a statement made about the trotting pony Cling. It is alleged by the late trainer that in the original entry the best performance was not given. The owner's defence is that, in making the nomination, he got the trainer to read the list of performances, which he wrote, and took it for granted that the trainer had read them correctly. The mare was purchased from Mr Buckland, of Sydney, and when he was in Christchurch he signed a declaration that the mare was Cling, and that the list of performances was correct. The omission of the two best performances having been brought under his notice since, he has explained that he was given to understand that the mare's identity was in question, and he took it for granted that the performances were stated as he had given them to the purchaser. He forwarded a cc'py from his let•ter book of the performance^ so given to the buyer. The decision in the matter was reserved.
