KAIAPOI.
The fornightly meeting of the jCaiapoi Bordugli Council was held on Tuesday' event, ing y"- present— the' Mayor and -'Councillors Daly, Eagle, Knight, Bilgg,-D.6ubleday,Hajv-man, Pearce.Feldwick and Hopkins. Correspondence was read— From the-Commissioner-of Lands, stating that as Parliament had not yet made any appropriation for subsidies to local bodies, he was not able to certify to an advance. From the Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board, asking for a gi;ant towards the- -.suppression of ismall birds. Declined, owing to. want of funds. . From the same,' asking for permission to take grit from the Borough Reserve on the North Road for a footpath in Woodend. Granted. From the trustees, Canterbury College, offer- 1 ing a strip of -_ land containing two acres with which to widen CanVHoad-- It was resolved that the necessaiy steps be taken for the conveyance. The Clerk's report stated that Mr M'lhtosh had complied with respect to the soil along the drain running through the Clairch Property Trustees' land. It was decided to invite applications for carting and. kerosene contracts for twelve months. The Finance Committee reported : Receipts £53 18s 4d, debit £726 Is lid; and, recommended accounts to £25 3s 7d for payment.' 'Adopted.' The Council then went into committee to consider Brick's case relative! to the Ashburton reserve. As a meeting; of Mr Brick/s creditors will be held on Tuesday next iti wits decided that the solicitor and Town Clerk should attend. The Mayor ;read a. tetter he proposed should be sent to ■<the Minister of Lands with regard- to ■ the. objections raised by local bodies to contributing towards the maintenance of the Kaiapoi traffic, bridge, and suggesting that as ths Minister, did not see the necessity for a judicial inquiry, the Government be asked to place a sum of money on the Estimates towards the maintenance.. The letter was approved. It was decided that a letter be sent to the Minister of Railways expressing regret that he could not -'advise |tny improvements; but hpping that in the near future they may be made, seeing the 'large 'returns received from the Kaiapoi station. The Finance Committee "was 'granted an extension of time to consider the matter' of licensing carriers; etc. An offer from Mr R. J. Jeffrey to rent Burnley Square at 25s per year was accepted. The Council then sat as the Domain Board. A letter from Mr Ching, offering £2 a year for a. plot for graz ing purposes, was not accepted. Accounts to £2 5s 5d were passed and the meeting closed.
