FROZEN MEAT.
Messrs W. Weddel- and Co. write that frozen meats have maintained their position relatively well ; and values on the average show no appreciable change during last week. Latterly che market has felt the effects o£ large arrivals o£ Australian rabbits, and with very hot weather at the close, prices are weaker all round. The sottlement of the Welsh coal strike may be expected to strengthen the demand somewhat ; but, as yet, no improvement has been witnessed in this respect. Canterbury mutton is selling slowly at from 3|d to 3f d, and occasionally 3|d per lb for best brands. Good secondary classes of New Zealand mutton are selling fairly freely at 3d to 3^d per lb, according, to quality. Inferior sheep are difficult of sale, heavy weights making 2|d to 3d and ewes 2£d to 2|d without reference to brand. The demand for lambs has fallen off materially, but stocks are low and prices firm; New Zealand prime, 4£d to sd, secondary 4«d.
