SIR GEORGE GREY.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. One of the members of a deputation of TJrewera Natives which waited on the Premier to-day expressed the desire of the UreAvera Maoris to mark their sorrow at the death of Sir George Grey. Mr Seddon said that their desire to do honour to Sir George Grey's memory and perpetuate his name amongst them was deserving of the highest admiration. He referred to the probability ■that the Europeans would erect statues to Sir George, and said that there should not be a town in New Zealand without a statue to him. He would like to see a statue of Sir George Grey occupying the central position in ike Parliamentary Grounds. As to what the Natives should do, he suggested that in order to everlastingly perpetuate Sir George Greyis memory, they should make inanenable education and hospital reserves, and also reserves, the revenue^ from which would be devoted to the relief of poor Natives. These) suggestions- met irith ; general approval from the deputation.
