Mr Tanner wishes to have privacy assured to voters at local elections by adopting the same safeguards as are employed in parliamentary elections. The Colonial Secretary is prepared to bring the regulations of local elections into line with the parliamentary elections, but does not anticipate being able to make the change this session.
Mr Pirani has given notice to ask whether totalisator licenses will be granted to clubs which license bookmakers.
The Private Bills Committee has reported on the M'Lean Motor Car Bill for the fourth time, and has made sundry amendments, the principal of which is the removal from Mr M'Lean of the power to issue licenses.
Mr Hogg presented a petition this afternoon from Captain Jackson Barry, " humbly craving" to be heard at the bar of the House in support of his claim for relief. The burst of laughter -which greeted the petition afforded a good index to the ultimate fate of the veteran's latest effort.
Mr Buchanan desires an amendment of the law providing compensation to settlers for damage by .fires caused by locomotive sparks.^
