AQUATIC NODES.

[Bt Jason in " Canterbury Times."j The West End Rowing Club, Auckland, has decided to donate £10 10s for a cot in the children's new hospital. It is not proposed to take, the money from the club's ordinary funds, but to solicit donations from the members, the money in the meantime being guaranteed by the committee. I am informed that the action of the committee meets with the approval of the majority of the members. Mr H. D. Hell, who has been, elected president of the Star Boating Club, Wellington, has been a member of the club since 1875, and is one of the trustees. The late president (Mr Edward Pearce), occupied that position for sixteen years, and members at the annual meeting last week placed on record their high appreciation of. the valuable services rendered by him to the club during the past twenty-two years. It was also decided to present Mr Pearce with an address prior to his departure for England, whither he goes, shortly to take Up" Ills residence permaneriiiv. . Mr E. D. ReeSi the Well-known Christchurch boat-builder, has just finished two pleasure stump-outriggers for the Canterbury Rowing Club, and is now engaged upon a racing stump for the Port Chalmers Rowing Club. This club sent crews to compete at the last Lyttelten Regatta-, and they brought with them a, Melbourne-built boat, which, however, for various reasons, was not nearly as speedy as the New Zealand made article. The crew engaged m the Senior Double Sculls obtained the use of the Lyttelton Club's boat, built by Mr Rees, c-uid gave the then champions, Chapman and Reed, a gruelling race all tlie way Sg satisfied were the visitors of the immense inferiority of their boat that their club decided to place an order with Rees, stipulating, however, that the timber should be cedar instead of spruce. Mr Rees has secured a fine sample of cedar, and is now occupied upon the boat. The twenty-ninth annual meeting of the members of the Auckland Rowing Club was held on August 17. Mr T. J. O'Meara, captain, occupied the chair. The report stated that the committee regretted that, through a series of adverse circumstances, the club did not occupy the financial position which it «l,ould do. 'The membership for the past season was fifty-five. The receipts for the past year had been £129 Is Bd, and the disLWments accounted for £97 4s but the balance in hand was only £1 8s lid lhc deficiency had not yet been accounted for by the late treasurer. The assets of the club, liter allowing for depreciation, were valued at £528 18s lid, and tlie liabilities amounted to £430 9s sd, leaving a surplus of £98 9s 6d. Mr C R- Gooch was elected captain, and Mr H Al'Kriiaht hon secretary. It was decided to issue 100 debentures at £1 each, bearing interest at 5 per cent, to be taken up by niemfeers'of the dub.
