The most expensive thermometer in use belongs to an American University, and is valued at £2000. It is an absolutely perfect instrument, and the graduations on the glass are so fine that it is necessary to use a microscope to read them.
Norwegian seamen are entitled to vote before leaving their country, if the polling day is within three months 'of their departure'; or they can vote at a. foreign port "within the same time by having their votes sent home through a Norwegian consul. The Royal Arsenal at Woolwich employs something like 15,000 men, and has about forty miles of internal railways. Four hundred years ago only seven metals were known. Now there are fifty-one — thirty of which have been discovered within the '"present century.
