TWENTY-SEVEN HORSES DESTEOYED. United Prees Association— By Electric TelegraphCopyright. Received May 26, 10 a.m. PERTH, May 26. The Central Horse Bazaar was destroyed by fire, and twenty-seven horses were burned to death. The damage is estimated at .£3OOO.
[Per Pkess Association.! AUCKLAND, May 26. A large hous9 in Sarsfield Street, Ponsonby, the property of Mr E. T. Dufaur, and occupied by the owner's mother, was totally destroyed by fire, -with most of the contents. Insurances on the house .£llsO, and on tl^e f urniture, .£IOOO, in the North German Office. GISBORNE, May 26. The Bridge Hotel at Matawhero, owned by Messrs Bloomfield Bros., the licensee being Mrs Maguire, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The building was insured for £600, and the furniture for .£270, in the New Zealand Office. WOODVILLE. May 26 The Star Hotel and a large building adjoining, occupied by Mr Cox as a Singer's sewing machine shop, were destroyed by fire at four o'clock this morning. The occupants of the hotel only saved what they stood in. Mr Cox saved his furniture and stock. Mr Lemons' blacksmith's shop was destroyed, but most o? the tools were saved. The water supply was limited. The fire originated in the hotel kitchen. The Star Hotel was occupied by Mr M'Kay. Insurances — Hotel buildings, .£750 in the Phoenix and other offices ; furniture, .£IOO in the United and £350 in the Victoria office.
