MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

♦ — Tlie members of the Canterbury Society of Yoikshiremen met at Mr Swarm's office on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and llr H. B. Kirk was in the chair. Mr G. Swarm, interim secretary, submitted to the meeting the draft rules, which had been revised by the sub-com-mittee appointed for that purpose. The Chairman reported that Sir John Hall had accept ed office as president of the Society, and the Hon W. Rolleston as one of its vice-presidents. Sir George Clifford had been asked to accept office as a vicepresident, but his reply had not yet come to hand. The committee advised the appointment of five vice-presidents in all. The rules as brought down by the subcommittee were adopted with amendments. The following were elected officers of the Society: — President, Sir John Hall*. vic-3-presideuts, Hon W. Rolleston, Messrs H. B. Kirk, W. Hill, G. Pickles and W. B. Clarkson ; to the vice-presidents, who are ex-oflicio committeemen, the following members of committee were added — Messrs C. Story, J. E. Hanson, E. ' Clarkson, J. Caygill, W. Badger, J. Smith and W. J. Walinsley; trustees, J. Smith and H. Stewart; secretary, Mr A. S. Hill: treasurer, Mr G. Swarm; auditors, Messrs W. Kollitt and B. Throp. On the motion of the Chairman, a vote of condolence, on account of his recent accident, was passed to the Hon W. Rolleston. Votes of thanks to the Chairman and to the interim secretary terminated the meeting. The opening meeting of the Papanui Boys' Club was held in St Paul's Schoolroom on Wednesday evening, when, in spite of the inclement weather, there was an attendance of about sixty. The president, the Rev H. T. Purchas, opened the meeting with a few appropriate remarks, after which those present enjoyed themselves, at boxing, singlesticks, draughts and other games. Yesterday afternoon at a public meeting held by the Theosophical Society in the Lodge-room, Lichfield Street, a lecture on " Christianity " was delivered by Mr J. M'Combs. A meeting of the Canterbury College Dialectic Society was held at the College on Saturday evening. Mr J. H. Smith, president, occupied the chair. Mrs Grossmann read an able paper on "The Resurrection of Greece," and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
