A meeting of the Match Committee of the Sydenham Tennis Club was held on Friday last, when it was decided to play both ladies' and gentlemen's handicap tournaments for the trophies presented by Mr Pannell. The first round will close on Monday, April 4. A meeting will be held in the Wesleyan Schoolroom, East Belt, this evening, at .eight o'clock, for the purpose of forming a new lawn tennis club, to be situated within the north-eastern quarter of the city. The promoters already have promises of over seventy intending members. It is understood that it is intended to secure a piece of land large enough for five or six courts, and that a suitable site is under consideration. The intending members are at present about equally divided between Thursday and Saturday players, so that there is no fear of the courts being overcrowded on any particular afternoon.
