Justices were occupied all day in hearing a, charge of fraud against John Summers, John Eyan and William Murdoch., They were charged with conspiring to defraud Thomas Foster of £2 in connection with totalisator investments at Napier Park races. The Justices could not come to an agreement, and adjourned the case till to-

morrow

Charles Nation, a well-known surveyor, died suddenly at Waipawa. An inquest was opened, but adjourned for the police to make further inquiries.
