OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND.
[Fkb Press Association.! DUNEDIN, March 24. The return cricket match, Southland v. Otago, was commenced to-day. Otago going^ in first scored 233, of which Broad compiled 84 by good but not chanceless cricket, Liggins 44, Siedeberg 37, Hope 15 and Baker 14. Southland's first innings realised 127, of which Kane made 35, Purdue 31 and Kingsland 35. Having to follow on, two wickets fell before stunipß were drawn for a total of two runs.
The Senior Cup match, Sydenham and ; Addington v. Lancaster Park Thirteen, will be continued at Lancaster Park when tlie Midland matcli is finished. The Ashley County and Selwyn County Elevens played their annual match afc Hagley Park yesterday. Selwyn County batted first, and thanks to a fine innings of 53 by Gascoigne, and useful contributions of 23 and 26 by Gudßell and Prebble respectively scored 137, Helmore was the most successful of the Ashley County bowlers, and secured five wickets for 13 runs. Ashley County commenced their first innings well, and 70 were on the board when only three wickets were down. . Then occurred a remarkable collapse, and all were out for 73. Clayton played well for 27, and Sale made 24. For Selwyn County, Keast captured five wickets for G runs, and Graham three wickets without a single run being scored off him. Being in a minority of 64, Ashley County were obliged to follow on, and with the score at 83, their last wicket fell just as time was called. Clayton again displayed capital cricket for 24, and A. W. Reeves hit trebly for IJ). Selwyn County thus won the match on the firßt innings by 64 runs.
