THE ABATTOIR QUESTION.

The following letter has been received by his Worship the Mayor on the muchvexed abattoir question: — " Christchurch, March 15, 1898. "Sir, — I am directed by tho Selwyn County Council to acknowledge the receipt of your letters of Jan. 26 and March 1, and in reply to state that it contemplates making arrangements with one of the existing freezing companies for the establishment of an abattoir, but nothing definite has yet been decided upon. The Council will communicate further with you before concluding arrangements. — I have the honour to be, sir, your obedient servant, J. Jameson, County Clerk." .
