Dr On Lee, the Chinese medico, has left on a visit to China. In the course of a speech he said he intended to urge the appointment of a Consul-General for Australia. After living in the colonies for forty years he had formed the opinion that China could rest on no better friend than England, and it would be his duty to instil this idea into all the leading men he came in contact with. The Executive has commuted the death sentence passed on Holmes, the tightrope walker, for attempting to murder his wife, to twelve months' imprisonment with peiinission to petition for a ticket of leave after three months. Beceived March 16, 12.45 p.m. SUICIDE OF A MURDERER. SYDNEY, March 16. Cusack, the Rookwood murderer, was found dead this morning in a brickyard at Parramatta. He had committed suicide by shooting himself. Beceived March 16, 9.40 a.m. SIR G. TURNER. MELBOURNE, March 16. The Premier successfully underwent a surgical operation yesterday, and is progressing favourably.
