A GOOD RECORD.
Commenting on the wreck of the Mataura in the Straits of Magellan, the London Daily Telegragh says :— " It is interesting to note that the New Zealand Shipping Company had, until the present disaster, been blessed with almost a unique experience as regards the safety of their vessels. During a business career of twenty-three years not a single serious calamity, with the exception of the loss of the Mataura, has befallen them, and not a single passenger has been lost. Few other companies with a large fleet and a history of a quarter of a century can boast of so happy _ a record, and as regards passengers, there is, happily, no reason, as yet, to fear that their reputation will be tarnished."

The necessary machinery is now on the way from Denmark, and a complete cementmaking plant will very shortly be installed under the supervision of the Milburn Company in Sydney, Melbourne and West Australia, The company is also widening its sphere of operations in this colony, steps being taken to establish mills in Ohristchurch and Wellington ' at an early date.
