MADAME AMY SHERWIN.
. Madame Amy Sherwin, assisted by her company, gave her sixth concert of the season in the Choral Hall on Saturday evening, in the presence of a large and enthusiastic audience. Madame Sherwin was in splendid voice, and gave as her first number Handel's beautiful Largo from Xerxes " Ombra inai f u/ with all the artistic purity for which she is famous, and in response to a demonstrative encore Madame sang "Ben Bolt" delightfully. In Vincent Wallace's old favourite, " Scenes that .are Brightest," Madame Sherwin showed to what perfection it is possible to bring the art of singing a simple legato melody, and in response to a prolonged recall, she gave , " Corner Back to Erin." In the flcridmusic of Allen's " Little Bird so Sweetly Singing " Madame Sherwin was equally at home, and sang as an encore the old favourite, "No, Sir" as charmingly as ever. Madame Sherwin also took part in Newton's humorous duet, "The Golden Goose," with Mr Deane, part of which had to be repeated. Miss Kitty Grindlay was in good voice, and sang Goring Thomas's " A Summer Night," and for an encore, "My Own Good Man": also Hope Temple's "In Sweet September." This, too, was ledemanded, and Miss Grindlay responded with Molloy's " Punchinello." Miss Grindlay also sang Knight's "She Wore a Wreath of Eoses," and took part with Mr Arthur Deane in the duets "Maying," by A. M. Smith, and " What's to do," from . Flotow'B Martha. Mr Arthur Deane sang Pinsuti's " King's Minstrel " with his usual vigour, and also gave a splendid rendering of Sullivan's "Thou Ait Passing Htmce." In the second part of the programme Mr Deane sang "The Yeoman's Wedding Song," and for an encore M. V. White's " Let us Forget." Mr H. Stoueham gave a good performance of Weber's "Air Varie," from Der FveiscMtz," and Mr Zelman played Papinis "L Absence," which was encored, and Bazzini's "Danse des Gnomes " very artistically. Mr Szczepanowski, who played all the accompaniments with grace and skill, gave a fine rendering of Greic's «« bnm i and alßu Chopin's " Mazurka m F Sharp Minor." • Madame Sherwin announced that she had decided to give three more concerts in' Christchurch, when she mould endeavour to answer as many of. her admirers' numerous requeata for encores as^possible
