PROPERTY SALES.

At the present time there are considerable inquiries for farming and suburban properties, and anything that is put on the market commands a good deal of attention. On Saturday, Messrs H. Matson and Co. offered about 200 acres of land in the West Melton district, in the estate of the late Mr J. Walker. The sum of .£4 10s was offered, but at this price the land was withdrawn. They afterwards sold to Mr J. Bain, for .£265, half an acre of land on the Springfield Road, with two cottages erected on it. There was an exceedingly large and representative attendance atMessrs Pyne and Co.'s salerooms on Saturday afternoon, when several well-known properties were offered by auction. The first offered by Mr Pyne (in conjunction with Messrs J. T. Ford and Co.) was the well-known Drayton Estate, which was sold under instructions from the executors of the late Mr Edward Chapman. The property consists of 2260 acres near Methven, with house, woolshed and all'improvements. Bidding started at .£3.103. per acre and ran up to M ss, at which price it was secured by Mr P. J. Millton, the total purchase money being .£9607 2s 6d. Another section at Methven, in the same estate, containing 117-J acres, partly bush, was withdrawn at 30s per acre. Several properties in the estate of the late Mr H. J. Hall were then disposed of by Mr Pyne. The first was 33 acres at Riccarton, just off the Riccarton Road, and cut up into seven building sites. For these there was considerable animation in the bidding, and the total price realised was ,£2608 3s. Lot 1, 3a ]r 26p, was bought by Mr T. A. Bullick at .£54 per acre; lot 2, 4a 2r, by Mr F. Williams at .£7B; lot 3, 4a 2r, by Mr J. Goss at .£65; lot 4, 3a 3r, by Mr W. H. Davis at i860; lot 5, lla Or 28p, by Mr P. H. Cannon at .£75; lot 6, 3a lr, by Mr P. H. Cannon at .£100; lot 7, 3a lr 2p, by Mrs Staples at .£l2O. This gives an average of over .£79 per acre. In the same estate the property at Fendalton at present; occupied by Mr Justice Denniston, consisting of 5a 2r 13p, with commodious dwelling-house, was then offered, but was withdrawn at .£ISOO. Twenty-five acres of land on the New Brighton beach, about three miles from the township, were disposed for .£l6 to Mr J. Goss. Under instructions from the executors in the estate of the late Dr Prins, the Russley Estate, consisting of 140 acres, was then put up. The property was offered subject to a mortgage 0f..£2500, and as only .£SO. was bid for the equity of redemption, it was passed in. Mr G. Dunnage's residential property, on the Papahui Road, consisting' of 3a 3r lp, with dwelling-house, was-also offered, but failed to elicit a bid.
