. Science announces that the Austrian BteamsMp Pola has gone to the Red Sea for scientific explorations, and will this year cover the ground between the Dsehedda and Aden. Dr Franz Steindachner, the ichthyologist, haa charge of the zoological work, and observations will also be made in physical oceanography. There are two women colonels in the United States Army, one of whom has just got married. The bride in question was Miss Nellie Ely, of Nashville, Offcnnessee, who was created a colonel by Governor Taylor, when Governor Atkinson, of Georgia, made a State^visit to the Cen-te_m_l_3-_wsition.
