THEATRE ROYAL.

STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART. There was again a* crowded attendant at the Theatre Royal last night, when th< Bland Holt Company repeated The Cottoi King. The various situations, whethei serious or comic, were received with ap plause, aud the scenic effects called fortl great admiration. Special mention musi be made of the realistic mill scene, foi which electric lights had beeu installed bj Mr C. A. Seager. •■•.*■:*. To-night the Company will play Sutton Vane and Arthur Shirley's Franco-Algeriar drama, Straight from the Heart. The scene of the first two acts is laid in Marseilles, where Fraser Fry, a millionaire, is murdered by Ventry Fox, a member of a great secret society. Suspicion is wrongly directedagainst David Walton, the hero, a young doctor, who is in love with Clara ' Nugent, the daughter of Captain Nugent of the Mistiertoe, a passenger steamer. Acquitted in the French Courts, through insufficient evidence, Dr Walton manages to get away from the country with his betrothed in the Mistletoe, in spite of the efforts of Ventry Fox to prevent him and to have him rearrested. Fox is himself in love with Clara Nugent, and boards the Mistletoe in order to be near her, and at the same time to leave the country. During the voyage the hero and heroine are married, but when off the Algerian Coast the vessel catches fire, ard the survivors land in two parties, each ignorant of the other's safety. Thus the lovers are separated in the inhospitable desert, and Walton finds his wife just in time to save her from the clutches ot Ventry Fox. But a rescuing party of French soldiers is commanded by an oiScor, who recognises Dr Walton, and remembering that he is still under suspicion feels compelled to arrest him. Tho last act finds Walton and one Raymond, a former servant of Fraser Fry, and a member of Fox's secret society, both condemned to death. Raymond confesses his knowledge of Fox's guilt, and Walton's wife arrives with a pardon just as the fatal guillotine is about to do its work. Fox is arrested, and, needless to say, all ends happily for the lovers. ' Imported Stock.— The steamer Tokomaru, which arrived at Lyttelton yesterday, had on board four pure-bred Red I Polled cattle, two heifers, one bull ancl one cow. consigned to Mr R. H. Rhodes.
