Art Society. — The annual meeting of the Canterbury Societ/ of Arts was held at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, at the Art Gallery. The Hoe E. C. J. Stevens presided, and there was a fair attendance of members. The report and balancesheet, a summary of wh^ch has already been published, was adopted. On the motion of Mr E. D. Thomas, it was decided to ask the incoming Council to recast the statement of assets and liabilities as far as the buildings are concorned. The election of officers resulted as follows : — President, the Hon E. C. J. Stevens;- vice-presidents, Messrs W. H. Wynh- Williams and J. Gibb; members of Cpuncil^rMiss H. Gibson; Messrs .W. M. Gibb, Gill and Bowring,; honorary treasurer, Mr S:BEurst Seager;' auditors, Messifs N. L; Macbeth' and A: Carrick. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the President. London has 600,000 houses, Paris 90,000 and New York 115,000.
