LANCASTEE PAEK ELEVEN v. UNITED ELEVEN.

The Lancaster Park Eleven, having won their match against the Midland Eleven, journeyed to Hagley Park, and at a few minutes to four commenced their match with the United Eleven. The Lancastrian captain won the toss, and as the wicket appeared as if it might prove slow and difficult, sent his opponents in. His decision was a wise one. True, the pitch playnd rather better than appearances indicated, but it was very much in favour of the bowlers. This, coupled with the fact that Wigley's absence from the home team materially weakened an otherwise powerful combination, ensured a comparatively short innings. Of the United batsmen, Boddington alone, troubled the bowlers. He batted confidently and forcibly, and his score of 33 saved his side from j irreparable disaster. Towards the close of the innings Frankish gave further evidence that he has developed considerable ability with the bat and Williams hit pluckily, but the remaining batsmen were all abroad to Wilding, who, bowling much more steadily than usual and with consummate judgment, secured seven wickets for 42 runs. The Lancaster Park team began their innings at twenty minutes to six, and thanks to the bad fielding of their opponents lost only one wicket for 12 runs. North, who gave two chances and should have been run out into the bargain, was bowled just before time was called. In contradistinction to that of their opponents, the fielding of the Lancastrians was excellent. Messrs Meares and Spencer acted as umpires. The following are the scores : — USITED ELEVEN.
