The Proprietors of the "Canterbury Times" propose to inaugurate a series of Photographic Competitions open to hona fide amateur photographers in all parts- of New Zealand. For the first competition three prizes will- he offered. It is essential that the photographs sent in should be suitable for reproduction in the paper ; otherwise, they will be considered ineligible for competition. Pictures which have previously appeared in other journals are prohibited. Photographs may be printed on any paper, by any process, and may be of any size, provided they he not smaller than quarter-plate. They must be mounted on plain card mounts. Competent judges have been secured, who are instructed to consider -.—First, Artistic Excellence; second, Technical Excellence; third, Suitability foe Beproditction. PBIZES. The prizes will be :— First, 2gs ; second, lg ; third, Jg, together with bound copies of Stoddart's photographs of famous cities, scenes and paintings. JUDGES.
