[Pxr Pbbss Association.*! AUCKLAND, March 4. Mr G. W. S. Patterson, gum merchant of this city, has received, a cable from hia American correspondents at New York that the United States Government proposes levying a duty of 12 per cent on kauri gum by the Clan M'Leod and following vessels. The Alice is the next. Mr Patterson states that intelligence has reached the United States that the New Zealand Government contemplate levying £3 per ton export duty on gum.
