CHRISTCHURCH REGATTA.

A meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Regatta Club was held at the Canterbury Rowing Club's boathouse last evening; present — -Messrs J. R. Evans (chairman), H. H. Smith, A. E. Craddock, F. W. Hobbs, F. I. Cowlishaw,' W. G. Atack, F. D. Kesteven, G. Scott, W. G. M'Donald, D. Lee and A. L. Smith (honorary secretary). The action of the Treasurer (Mr Kesteven) in accepting the oifer of Messrs Gardner and M'Donald for the programme was approved. It was decided ; to hold over for the present the engagement of a band. Correspondence was read from the Railway Department, stating that it could not give the committee any rebate on the rate of charge, and from the Kaiapoi Regatta Committee, stating* that it could not see its way clear to join forces and make one regatta. Mrs L. J. Smith's offer for the confectionery booth was approved. It was decided to invite tenders for a publican's booth. The following officials were appointed: Patron, His Excellency the Governor ; judges, Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes, R. Heaton Rhodes, J. S. Monck, J. Gould and J. F. Griorson ; umpired: Messrs J. 0. Jones and J. J. Collins j starter, Mr A. E. Craddock ; stewards, the General Committee. It was decided to ask the Mayor to proclaim a holiday from noon on the day .of the regatta ; to write to the Holiday Committee of the Chamber of ; Commerce to a similar effect; and also to write to the Colonial Secretary with reference to the cloaing of the Government offices. The laying^off of the course was left to the Secretary.
