MINING.

[Per Press Assoctation.'l AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. A demonstration of Streetfield's gold extracting process, an English invention, was given before a number of gentlemen interested in mining. Two parcels of ore from the Crown and Talisman mines were treated. The ore first was dry crushed, and then treated with a solution of nitrate of sodium and hydrochloric acid. The result will not be known till the end of the week. . It is claimed that the invention will save the same percentage of gold as the cyanide process at half the cost. The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Goldfields Committee of the Chamber of Mines :— " That vigorous action be taken by the Chamber to continue the agitation for the reduction of taxation and for the removal of the disabilities under which the mining industry now labours."
