RAM FAIR.
[Per Press Association.] NAPIER, Jan. 28. There . was a good attendance at the annual ram fair to-day, including visitors from all parts of the colony. The entries were not quite so large as last year, the numbers being 1130 flock sheep and 82 studa; The majority of the -animals entered., were fairly up to the average of last year. A good judge thought that the quality all round was not quite so good, but there was general increase in the size of sheep. The bidding was slow at starting, and many lots were passed in, but were afterwards disposed of privately. After lunch, however, when the studs were put up, matters mended somewhat, and any that were above the average fetched very fair prices. The best bidding of the day was for a Sutton ram, when Messrs James Collins and J. H. Williams had a long and spirited tourney over what must be considered the best animal of the day, it being finally knocked down to the former for 80gs.
