The Defence Department has instructed the Harbour Board to remove the signal staff and cottage at Mount Victoria to: make room for big guns, with the view of increasing the Auckland defences. The telescope at Mount Victoria is to be replaced by a modern one that will enable warships to be seen thirty miles distant.
