The steamer Behiobistan, with a cargo of arms and ammunition taken on board at St Petersburg, has been captured by a British gunboat, in the Persian Gulf. It •is believed that the arms were intended Sot the revolted tribesmen in Beluchlstan, or for the purpose of forwarding a rising in Persia. Yesterday the Hon W. Hall-Jones inspected the districts ravaged by the Oxford and Birch-Hill bush fires, and gave a donation of <£20 towards the fund for the relief of the sufferera thereby. In the evening he mot a deputation of the Bootmakers' Union at the Christchm-ch Railway Station, and afterwards left for Wellington by the s.s. Penguin.
