BOOTMAKERS' UNION:. A meeting of the Christchurch branch of the New. Zealand Federated Bootmakers' Union was held at Inglis' Build-ings-last night. There was a very large attendance, and the president, Mr W. Darlow, occupied the chair. The executive reported that out of 290 members on the books of the branch fifty were entirely unemployed, and that the remainder were not working half their time. Reports to similar effect were received from Dnnedin and Wellington. After a long discussion a deputation was appointed to wait upon the Hon the Minister of Public Works and request him to bring the fact under- the .notice of the Government, Avith a. view to work of some kind being found for those out of employment.
