. CHRISTCHUECH. Friday, Jan. 1. (Before Mr A; Scott, J.P., and Mr E. Skog, J.P.) Drunkenness. — A first offender was fined 5s or the usual alternative. — Kate Jones, for being drunk and soliciting prostitution in Cashel Street, was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined £\, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, for the other offence. Obstruction. — James Robinson, for leaving his vehicle unattended in Hereford Street without locking the wheel, was fined 10s and costs. — William Poninghouse, for a similar offence in Durham Street, was also fined 10s with costs. Breaking an Insulator. — & small boy was charged with wilfully breaking an insulator on a telegraph pole in Hereford Street on Dec. 31. After hearing the evidence, the Bench dismissed the case with a caution. Riding without a Light.— For riding after dark with no light on his bicyle Francis Brittain was fined 5s and costs. The Education Act. — For failing to send their children regularly to school, John Burnett, Mary Jackson, — Smith, Robert Buchanan, Herbert Empson, Edward Wesfcon, David Hughes and Thomas Sullivan were each fined 2s for one week's absence, and William Brunt, Louisa Weigel and Harry Webb were fined 4s each.
