NELSON HOSPITALITY.
As an illustration of the hospitality of Nelson folk, a Christmas visitor to " Sleepy Hollow " tolls a tale. He was driving along the Wakapuaka Eoad whfcn in front of aroadside gate hesawacandlebox filled with large ripe yellow plums. T?he day wa,s hot and the road dusty, and the plums sheltered ' by the fence looked cool and tempting. The traveller resisted the temptation, but a cow coming along helped herflelf liberally, and the visitor drove on his way suffering the tortures of Tantaluto. On" the home- * ward journey the box, almost ; eiripty, was : again passed, and imagftie the" mortification of the traveller wlion on" close inspection he found attached to 'it a card' upon which were written the words " Eat and welcome." The traveller is never tired of dilating upon' the - intelligence"' of : that ccw in pleasing" contrast to his own '• stupidity.
