BOROUGH COUNCIL.

KAIAPOI. A meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last night; present — tbe Mayor, and Councillors Clark, Feldwick, Hayman, Bugg, Hopkins, Pearce, Simpson aud Blakety. Correspbndence was read from Mr L. J. Cox relative to the removal of a cottage from the North Road reserve. The Council declined to interfere. Mr B. A. Knight presented a petition signed by thirty-six residents in the vicinity, asking that the old North Road be not opened," but that permission be granted for a gate to be erected. Left for the parties to arrange. The Council decided to have some tarring and painting done at the foot-bridge. The matter of water supply for the cart was left over for further consideration by the committee. The Finance Committee reported receipts _34 3s, Bank balance _457 2s, and recommended accounts to ,£2O 3s Id for payment. The report was adopted. Councillor Feldwick said that as this was the Mayor's last evening in the chair, he would move a hearty vote of thanks to him for his services. Councillor Simpson seconded .the motion, and all the councillors present spoke in highly complimentary terms. The motion was carried unanimously, and the Mayor acknowledged the compliment. The Council then sat as the Domain Board, i Councillor Clark stated that the sum of . _Ji2 10s had been received from the 1 Woollen Company's directors towards the cost of the deep well, &c, and there was a credit of £42 17s Bd. An application from ; ' the Salvation Army captain for the use of I the Domain on Anniversary . Day and ! Boxing Day was granted. It was decided to clean up the paths and weed the flower beds, and to ask the clerk to prepare specification for building a small covering of iron to hold a copper for picnic purposes. The meeting then closed.
