CANTERBURY TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL
• The ordinaiy meeting of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council was held on Saturday, in Inglis's Buildings, and the President ot* the Council occupied the chair. Correspondence was received from Messrs Charles Lewis and T.E.Taylor. The i Minister of Eailways wrote in rejily to a communication from the Council requesting the Government to conform to the awards of the Arbitration Court in the recent carpenters' dispute. It was resolved that the Secretary should reply informing the Government that the Council was moving on behalf of Trades Unions which are affiliated to the Coimcil and which have members of their unions in Government employment. The Secretary was instructed to write to the various Trades Councils in the colony requesting them to co-operate in the retention of Mr Ben Tillett. Correspondence was received from the Boilermakers' Union; intimating that the Union had decided to become affiliated to the Council, and requesting information, which the Secretary was instructed to supply. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Minister of Labour requesting him to forward copies of all Bills before the House of Representatives.
