SWIMMING.
NEW ZEALAND SWIMMING ASSOCIATION. An adjourned general meeting of the New Zealand Swimming Association was I held in the Clarendon Hotel last evening-, I when thirty delegates were present. 'An j apology for absence was received from the i president, Mr E. W. Roper, and Mr Gv i Harris, vice-president, occupied the chair. | The secretary, Mr . Smart, informed the delegates that after the biennial championship meeting he would be compelled to resign, as he would not have' the j necessary time to devote to the work, j Messrs Johnston and Tonlrs, delegates for the Auckland Club, wrote, stating that i they had been instructed by their club j that it had decided to.suspend its relations j with the Association. With regard to the ! .championships, the Secretary stated that i he had learned that the biennial AustralI asian championships could not be held at Wellington, as the use of the wharves could not be obtained on a suitable dale. It was resolved that the biennial championships should be held in Christchurch. j All the championships, except the 220 yds, J which had been granted to Rakaia, and the ; 100 yds allowed to the Richmond Club, were j allotted to the Wellington and Wanganui Clubs. The water polo championship was left with the Christchurch Chib's delegates. Mr Atack moved— "That this Association is opposed to an alliance with auy kindred sports association, being of opinion that the agreenient that has previously existed is detrimental to the interests of this Association." The motion was seconded by Mr Carr and carried. Mr Henderson, in pi'oposing a very hearty vote of thanks to the Exiles Committee, pointed out that not a single rule suggested by them had been altered in its vital principle. Mr Atack, in seconding the motion — which was carried — said that the Association had now a body of rules second to none m the colony. A vote of thanks to the Chairman was carried, and the meeting adjourned for one week.
A meeting of swimming club delegates was held at the Clarendon Hotel on Monday night; present — Messrs G. J. C. Smart (chairman), A. Francis (Ashburton), J. M. Watson (Christchurch), L. D. Arinitage (Richmond), F. H. Cotton (Canterbury), 0. Kent (Sydeuham), G. G. Collins, W. Taylor and R. Rich (Lyttelton), W. C. Harrington, C. Agar, C. Mazey and A. E. Taylor (East Christchurch). The .programme for the New Year's Day sports at Lyttelton regatta was considered, and it will comprise a 220 yds Provincial Championship and 50, 75 and 100 yds Handicaps. Entries will close on Saturday, Dec. IS, at the Clarendon Hotel, at S p.m. In connection with the swimming sports to be held at Lyttolton on New Year's Day, the following officials have been elected : — Judges, the Presidents of clubs : secretaries, Messrs W. C. Cleary and W. C. Harrington ; timekeepers, Messrs C. Mazey, G. G. Booth and A. E. Taylor; marksnieu, captains of clubs ; costume "steward, Mr G. J. C. Smart; committee, Messrs J. M. "Watson, A. Francis, C. Kent, G. E. Collins, G. Rich, H. G. Brown, W. C. Cleary, A. Brabner, W. A. Howison, C. Mazey, L. Agav, A. E. Taylor, N. Taylor, C. Taylor, F. H. Cotton, L. D. Armitage, W. C. Harrington and G. J. C. Smart ; starters, Messrs Ei W. Roper and G. G. Booth ; check starter, Mr J. M. Watson. There will be a life-saving display by members of j the Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club. The programme will consist of a 220 yds Provincial Championship of Canterbury, three In tor-club events and a Lyttelton Club event. The Christchurch Club's annual sports to be held on Saturday promise to be a great success. In the Christchurch Handicap representatives from the Christchurch, East Christchurch, Lyttelton, Richmond, Sydenham, Canterbury, Yaldhurst and Ricearton Clubs will compete, and over forty entries have been received. A novelty race on the programme will be the first of its kind held in Canterbury. The first race will start at 2.30 p.m. A meeting will be held at the Lancaster Park Hotel, this evening, to endeavour to form a Swimming Club at Lancaster Park. All those interested are invited to attend. The meeting is called for 8 o'clock.
