PARLIAMENTARY PRECIS.
« The Old Age Pensions Bill was introduced into the Legislative Council yesterday, and the motion for its second reading was set down for consideration to-day. The Hon J. A. Bonar gave notice of a motion which specified various reasons why the Bill should be set aside. The second reading of the Wages Protection Bill was carried by 25 to 11, and the Defamation Bill was partly considered in committee. The sitting of the House of Representatives was characterised by determined obstruction by the Opposition. The Horowhenua Bill was introduced when the House met, and was subjected to the unusual ordeal of a long discussion before the motion for the firstreadingwas carried. Anlmprest Supply Bill for .£290,000 was the only other measure brought forward, and it was not passed till late at night, Opposition members raising long discussions at each stage. Before tlie House rose, the Premier, in a vigorous speech, warmly denounced . the tactics of the Opposition, charging that party with having wasted the sitting, and with the deliberate and wilful obstruction of tlie business of Pai-liament.
