[Per Press Absociation.J ACQUITTED. t SYDNEY, Oct. 6. Lewis, charged with the murder of Catherine Smith at Manly in August last, has been acquitted. " ELECTORAL. I MELBOURNE, Oct. G. The election nominations have closed except two. All the members of the Assembly are seeking re election. The following have been returned unopposed: — The Premier and Attorney-General,' Mr Isaacs (Chief Secretary), Messrs. Peacock, ( Chirnside, M'Bride, Langdon, Outtrim, Shiels, Graham, Burton, J. Thompson and J. A. Isaacs. TASMANIAN INCOME TAX. HOBART, Oct. 7. A deputation asked th% Colonial Treasurer to remove the Income tax. In reply he stated that Ministers were prepared to make a reduction and to remove the inquisitorial features, but rather than go beyond this they would resign.
