LINWOOD LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club was held last evening at the Canterbury Rowing Club's boathouse. Mr C. Palairet, president, occupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members. The committee's report congratulated the members on a successful season. Out of eleven intfir-club matches" the club had won nine. There were seventy-eight members on the roll. The ordinary receipts for the year had been .£6O (is, and the working expenditure .£54 6s 7d, which left a balance of .£5 19s sd. This, added to the credit balance brought forward at the beginning of the year, left a total credit balance of Ml 12s sd, but out of this .£lB had been paid towards the purchase of the courts, leaving .£23 12s od in the bank. There were assets amounting to .£lO 6s 6d. The negotiations for the purchase of the grounds had been protracted, but, finally, they had been bought for .£415, of which £3*50 had been raised on mortgage, and the balance subscribed in debentures by members and subscriptions by honorary members. The special thanks of the club were due to Mr Flesher, for having done all the legal work connected with the transfer and mortgage gratuitously. The repoit aud balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected : — Patron, the lion E. C. J. Stevens ; president, Mr C. Palairet; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Murray, C. J. Mouutfort, H. J. Jekyll, J. R. Brunt, W. P. Cowlishaw, A. Marshall (Mayor of Linwood) and the Rev W. A. Pascoe; honorary treasurer, Mr J. Nicholson; honorary secretary, Mr C. A. E. Ferguson ; committee, Messrs N. Kiver, W. J. Barlow, J. R. Sinclair, H. R. Schmidt, J. B. Wither, C. T. Aschman and P. Metz ; auditor, Mr E. J. Tayler; delegates to the Lawn Tenniß Association, Messrs H. Murray and C. A. E. Ferguson: delegate to the Sports Protection Association, Mr Ferguson. Hearty votes of of thanks were accorded to Mr Flesher, for his legal assistance, to the President, Mr Palairet the treasurer, Mr Nicholson, and the secretary, Mr Ferguson. It was decided to open the season on Oct 23.
