DUNEDIN, Junb 22.
In the football match between North Otago and a Dunedin team, the Dunedin men won by twenty points to nil.
An American diver, Lewis Sorcho by name, has invented a submarine telephone which promises to become a great boon to all those connected with diving operations. A headgear made of very pliable rubber fits over the head and under the chin of the diver, a similar headgear being attached to the man in the upper air who wishes to communicate with his submerged comrade. Over the left ear of each is the transmitter of sound, over the right ear a wooden pad. The telephonic cable passes through the front .of the diving helmet. It is claimed that the softest whisper can be heard with the utmost plainness, no matter how deep down the diver may be. The Marquis of Lome, the least known of her Majesty's sons-in-law, possesses a most attractive personality. Although exceptionally gifted — he is a writer, a poet and a statesman — he is very modest, and is one of the few men who are thoroughly liked by all those with whom they are brought in contact. Lord Lome's favourite amusement is tobogganing. He is also an excellent stater, and when the Viceroy of Canada was able to indulge in both his pet forms of amusement.
