The most popu ar feature in the displays 3 esterday was the Fire Brigade arch. The English newspapers express serious displeasure because the colonial troops will not witness t te naval review at Spithead on Saturday,

The Continental newspapers, especially thoße of Franc i and Germany, in commenting on the celebrations, make eulogistic references to tho Queen. During the Record Reign celebrations at Wellington yesterday, Sir .Tames Prendergast, Administrator of tho Government, announced that the Premier, the Hon R. .T. Seddon, had been appointed a member of the Privy Council. President M'Kinley has re-drafted the Arbitration Treaty between the ' United States and Great Britain, omitting the features to which, opposition was made. Ho has re-opened negotiations on the subject with Lord Salisbury. The foreign Ambassadors who are arranging the terms of peace have offered Turkey four hundred square kilometres of country on the Thessalian frontier. The Turkish, officials complain, liowtvw, that the territory is of little strategic value.

The Emperor of uermany. in the course of an address, ex])ressed a hope that the nation would support him in sternly, repressing revolutionary movements and severely punishing everyone who attempted to prevent the employment of free labour.

In connection with tho Record Reign celebrations the clemency of the Crown has been extended to a number of prisoners, who were released yestorday. Louis Chemis was one of those liberated from Lyttelton gaol, and about twenty other prisoners, in various parts of the colony, were set free. Last evening news was received by the telegraph authorities that the proposal of a telegraph signal in connection with tho opening of the hymn of thanksgiving in St PatU's Cathedral had been officially disapproved, and that the idea had been abandoned. All lines were to bo cleared at eleven o'clock for tho Queen's message to Governors and their replies. The Record Reign celebrations in Christchurch yesterday were highly effective. There was a great procession in the morning through the principal streets, which were densely thronged with spectators. At the Show Grounds, where the National Anthem was sung by school children and an artillery salute and /cv de joie were fired by the volunteers, an enormous crowd gathered. In the evening the city was brilliantly illuminated, and the streets were filled by many thousands of people. The proceedings were concluded by a great gathering in Cathedral Square shortly before midnight, when the National Anthem was enthusiastically sung.

Great displays were given in other cestres, but that at Wellington was considerably interfered with by a boisterous wind, and those at Westport and Invercargill were marred by rain. On Sunday special services were held in all the churches in the United Kingdom, in the Anglican Churches in Continental cities and the United States, and in every part of the British dominions. The service at St Paul's Cathedral, which wan attended by the Queen, was particularly impressive.
