WAIKARI SHEEP DOG TRIALS.

«, : The Waikari Collie Club's meeting was continued on Saturday in perfect weather, and all the arrangements worked smoothly imder the superintendence of the Secretary, Mr W. C. Bridson. There were between two and three hundred persons oh the ground, fully a third being ladies, and the keenest interest was shown in the work done by the dogs. The Challenge Cup was again taken by Mr W. Anderson's grand collie Bruce, whose work in both trials won the admiration of all. Having won the cup two years in succession, it now' becomes the property of his owner. Mr H. T. Little's Gather also worked excellently, and tied with Bruce in Class 2. . Messrs W. 0. Rutherford, G. M'Eae and P. Elder acted as judges, Mr R. Young as timekeeper, and Mr D. Mannas flag steward, all giving satisfaction. Tha results were as follow : — PUPPY STAKES (under fifteen months), heading and bringing back, about. ."50yds ; first prize £3, second £2, third £1. Time allowed, 11 minutes. Points— Headinsj 12, under command 10, bringing back 8 ; total SO. E. Vinceut's Fly, 9, B, 7— t&tnl 24 1 M. Elliot's York, 0, 8, C— total 23 2 Four other dogs competed, but the work they did was of coo indifferent a quality to gain points. Fly cast to the left, and headed nicely on the right, and brought his sheep close to the ring. York cast to the right, headed, and brought his sheep" back to the ring quietly, but split and lost them. HEADING, BRINGING BATE A^D YARDING •, abont 350 yd:- -; first prize £7, secoud ;C5, third £3, fourth 421. Time nllowed, 15 minutes. Points — Heading G, bringing back JO, yarding 14 ; total 30. Mr W. M'Leoil's Corbie, li, B— total U .., ... 4 Twenty-one dogs competed, and every one failed to yard the sheep. Bruce went out in grand style, headed quietly, and brought the' sheep back to the ring in a perfect manner. 'At the ring the sheep split, but the deg got them together again. They again split, however, and mado away. Mr Little's Gather, that tied with Bruce for first place, went out in good stylo and brought the sheep back to the yard quietly. ( He worked very .wide at the yard at times, but lost no sheep. Mr Fraser's Eock wont out very well and headed the sheep nicely, but did a little too much ringing in bringing back. He worked rather rashly at the yards and split the sheep, but got them together again. Corbie started out very well, and headed in excellent style. He brought back his sheep quietly, but kept too much to the top side. SHEPHKBDS' KACE ; first prize a trophy given by the President (Mr J. Douglas) ; second x>rizo trophy given by Mr G. Pain. . J. Armstrong 1 E. Lewis 2 TV. Hogg also started, but did not finish. The course was about a third of a mile, including a climb to the top of a hill about five hundred feet high. A general meeting of members was held at Mr G. Pain's Star and Garter Hotel, "Waikfjri, on Friday evening. There was an attendance of nineteen, and' 'Mr W. TV. M'Eae' was voted to the chair. The principal object of the. meeting was to givo the members an opportunity to offer suggestions'to the committee tending to the improvement of the trials. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr M'Rae for providing snch good merino sheep for the trials, and to Mr j. Douglas for the cross-b reds used. Hearty thanks were also accorded to the latter gentleman for the use of the ground, and the trouble ho had taken in the interests of the meeting; also to Mr J. Little for his many kindnesses to tho club. Ten new members were elected and six proposed.
