♦ THE LATE MR JOHN ANDERSON. The funeral of the late Mr John Anderson took place this afternoon, and was largely attended. The bier was brought to St Paul's Church from the late residence of the deceased gentleman at 2.30 p.m., and taken into the church. The pall-bearers were Messrs J. Paterson, W. Sneddon, S. M'Farlane, A. Johnson, J. Milne and A. Johnson, the three former of whom have been over thirty years, and the others about twenty years employed at the Canterbury Foundry. The bier decorated with wreaths of white flowers, was fpllowed to the church by the sons and grand-children of the deceased. The service at the church was conducted by the Eev Dr Ehnslie. The Hymn " What are these which are arrayed in white robes, and whence came they " was sung, and the Rev R. Erwih engaged in prayer. The hymn "So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom " followed. The "" Dead March in Saul " was played on the organ, and the cortege left the church for the Addington Cemetery at three o'clock. The late Mr Anderson's carriage, filled with wreaths, followed the hearse, and next caina the carriages containing relatives of the deceased. Among those who joined the cortege at the church were the Mayor and Councillors of Christchurch, who attended in their official capacity as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased, who worthily occupied the mayoral chair of the city in 1569. The procession was about a mile long.
